IMPLEMENTATION OF APQP IN AEROSPACE – PITFALLS AND RECOMMENDATIONS FROM A TRAINING PROVIDER PERSPECTIVE

Head of Business Development
-
+
Originally designed as an automotive standard, APQP is now a top requirement for aerospace suppliers and represents the biggest change since the introduction of the EN9100. In preparation for this, major aerospace players have started to implement APQP in their organisations. But what ensures a successful and sustainable implementation of new standards in a company? During this workshop, we will look into the different support options available to suppliers during their APQP journey based on concrete examples from the industry. We will discuss the importance of ensuring that stakeholders understand the added value of a holistic approach towards APQP. Directives and training alone may not be sufficient to achieve the change of mind-set necessary to break down the silos and avoid the pitfalls on the way to successful implementation of APQP and thus reduce cost of non-quality and lead times.

In February 2014, four major aerospace OEMs came together to form the Aerospace & Defense PLM Action Group. The Group’s mission is to set direction for the aerospace & defense industry on topics related to Product Lifecycle Management (PLM). This includes promoting, not duplicating, the work of standards bodies, and to communicate with a unified voice to PLM solution providers. These activities are considered for major OEM as key issue for their respective Transformation of their industries. This presentation will provide insight into the intent, operational model and activities of the Group. We will provide a short synthesis of current projects, to show how this open collaboration is addressed industry-wide pain points.

NEW PEEL SHIMS FOR HIGH-TEMPERATURE APPLICATIONS

CEO
-
+
Georg Martin GmbH is pleased to announce a new method to create detachable connections between shim foil layers. By using laser welding instead of bonding MARTIN® creates special non-permanent connections for shim packs. This has opened new opportunities for shim applications in the area of aviation assembly in case of temperatures higher than 200 degrees. Furthermore, this new product is highly interesting for bearing clearance adjustment work. A high precision comes along with a high shim stiffness and reduced danger of potential lubrication contamination. In addition, the product is safer and faster to use than normal Peel shims.

A Smart Collaboration between Aircraft Manufacturers to Harmonize the Process and PLM Solution for Multi-view BOM Management Since 2017, the A&D PLM Action Group’s Multi-view BOM project team has been working to produce an understandable set of common high-level requirements for managing the multi-view BOM from Design to Manufacturing with the aim of translating them into true PLM solutions. In a smart collaboration approach, subject matter experts from the group member companies, such as Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier, Dassault Aviation, Embraer, GE Aviation, Gulfstream and Rolls-Royce regularly teleconference to exchange information and ideas, and physically meet twice a year to confirm consensus and consolidate their work and conclusions. This presentation will describe the operating model that has been put in place; topics identified by the team that need to be addressed and the Position Paper that cover current results of their job.

INCREASE OF PRODUCTIVITY FOR FLEXFORMING PROCESSES VIA NUMERICAL OPTIMISATION OF TOOL SURFACE TO REDUCE SPRINGBACK

Forming project leader and process simulation specialist
-
+
Stelia Aerospace produces big aluminium parts for the aeronautics industry through a forming process called “Flexforming”. A flat blank is positioned on a shape (the “punch”) and a flexible rubber pad is laid on top of it. Above this, a rubber diaphragm is then inflated with a fluid under pressure so that the group “blank + rubber pad” is deformed, until the blank completely covers the punch and takes its shape. Today, the punch is machined according to the the theoretical shape we want to achieve for the final part. When the pressure is removed from the blank, stresses are released, causing geometrical displacement in the part – the springback – therefore the final part does not correspond to the wanted shape any more. The part needs then to be reworked in the toolshop to ensure a good geometry. This rework can be complex, can take a long time and cost a lot of money; it also needs to be carried out by experts. The aim of this joint project “Stelia Aerospace/AutoForm” was to work on several parts, first to check the accuracy of springback prediction via numerical simulation. Then the punch geometry was modified thanks to AutoForm-Compensator, a numerical tool dedicated to springback compensation, in order to reduce rework and ensure an accurate final shape of the parts.

PREDICT EQUIPMENT FAILURES BEFORE THEY HAPPEN TO DELIVER NEXT-GENERATION SERVICES

Innovation director
-
+
In the age of connected equipment, industrial companies want to capitalize on their installed base and create closer relationships with customers to deliver next-generation services. By harnessing the Industrial IoT (IIoT) and combining the power of machine data, conditions monitoring, predictive analytics, real-time asset alerts and maintenance execution you can make contractual uptime promises and offer product-as-a-service programs. Predictive maintenance tools are not only based on data analysis. It's a fully integrated upstream and downstream communication system. How to collect and operate data through the information system in order to better answer to the customer needs ? or increase supply chain's efficiency ? Our presentation will cover these challenges.
