French Mechanical Industry supports the Future European Aerospace Research towards Green Aviation

Aeronautics must respond to 3 environmental...
Aeronautics must respond to 3 environmental, economic, and societal challenges that require and justify an unprecedented R&T effort. This sector is strongly committed to the energy transition and the reduction of its environmental impacts. In response to market expectations, the manufacturing tool must evolve in technicality and productivity to reduce acquisition and operating costs while preserving margins. The Supply Chain, especially SMEs, must continue to develop its skills in a highly competitive environment.
Cetim, Centre Technique des Industries Mécaniques is historically a technological companion of the aeronautics industry to contribute to the construction of solutions allowing to reach the ambitious objectives of this industrial sector, as a partner of its R&T and as a provider of solutions and services.
Three examples of R&T partnerships illustrate this proximity in the development of "green aviation". Hydrogen is a key element for the energy transition in aeronautics with the goal of a carbon neutral aircraft by 2035. Having cryogenic hydrogen tanks made of composite materials at a controlled cost is the objective of the material/product/process developments currently underway. Original solutions combining advanced composite materials, innovative thermoforming processes and original product/process design methods have been developed to meet the challenges of lightening aeronautical components and structures. World-class test benches have been developed in partnership with Safran. They improve understanding and modeling of the phenomena encountered in the operation of aircraft engine seals, qualify technologies, and evaluate components.
These examples illustrate Cetim's mission as a technical centre at the service of mechanical industries and for industrial sectors. It is about identifying technologies, evaluating them, developing innovative solutions for their implementation on an industrial scale and transferring its results to companies.

Space Aero action to support the Supply Chain transformation and recovery
Christophe Delqué - Managing Director, SPACE Aero
-
Space organization has been improving...
Space organization has been improving the industrial performance of the Supply Chain on a lasting basis for more than 10 years, by being at the crossroads of major players and suppliers.
In the context of the COVID crisis, we are constantly listening to our community and we are adapting our actions to support the Supply Chain on its short-term challenges: cash flow control, strategy, transfers of activities, business continuity.
It is by pooling the resources of its executive members (major national players) that SPACE is supporting its community and the industry in this crisis through training and collective or dedicated actions.
Focus on the SPACE action to support the restructuring that is taking place in this adaptation period of the sector.

Tomorrow, towards a new economical space
Murielle Lafaye - Head of Economic intelligence Department, Project manager of the Space economy Observatory, CNES (Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales)
-
The economy of space, over the past 10 years...
The economy of space, over the past 10 years, has been changing rapidly due to a paradigm shift related to digitization and Newspace. Indeed, the economy of the space sector is developing very dynamically. The development of the uses of space affects increasingly varied fields such as environmental management, agriculture, transport and mobility, energy, health, the fields of insurance, finance, but also land management, or tourism. This development of uses is also amplified by that of constellations which democratizes the use of satellites, which have become connected objects like any other, and which opens up to a so-called "space as a service" economy of space for the Earth, but also from space to space. Also, it is envisaged that a new “Space-in-Space economy” will develop beyond geostationary orbit, around the Moon and the Moon towards Mars, stimulated by major exploration programs, opening up a "new economic space".

This year's theme is that of company deal flow...
This year's theme is that of company deal flow, which is emerging in many sectors, particularly in the space industry. The beginning of 2020 was marked by a few significant transactions, mainly in the United States: AE Industrial Parners took control of Adcole Maryland Aerospace and Deep Space System. Redwire acquired Made in Space. Amergint Technologies Holdings purchased Raytheon Technologies. Amergint became the main shareholder of Tethers Unlimited. Voyager Space Holding acquired Pioneer Astronautics. Could this wave of transactions cross the Atlantic Ocean? Will it reinforce the trend that has been observed in Europe in recent months towards a significant increase of private investors in the financing of European start-up companies? Should we expect, in the next coming months, a multiplication of transactions in the European space sectors?

Role of supply chain in the development of the low-carbon aircraft
Paul Marie Dubreuil - Vice President Procurement Group, Daher
-
The major environmental challenges...
The major environmental challenges we are facing today require aeronautical companies in particular to make a collective commitment to launch research and innovation for the development of tomorrow's low-carbon aircraft.
With its unique position in the aeronautical landscape (aircraft manufacturer, a family-owned group with strong values and a ong-term vision, and a pioneer in the convergence of industry and services), Daher is resolutely committed to a CSR policy to meet these environmental challenges. The development of this CSR policy necessarily involves a responsible procurement approach, which is essential to federate and involve all partners in the common goal of greener aviation.
