Vice President Assembly and Innovation
Jens Gralfs, Airbus vice president, was appointed in January 2013 Architect for the Overall Physical Design. He is in charge of all Research & Technology activities in this field, managing the transnational activities for system structure and cabin. His team develops solutions for new aircraft programs as well as new ideas for all running programs in Airbus.
Before taking over this role, he was in charge of manufacturing engineering for all assembly and installation processes in Airbus for 5 years, leading the transnational manufacturing engineering team for all assembly/installation activities at Airbus, covering all ten assembly plants across Europe.
Jens Gralfs began his professional career in 1992 in Airbus as project leader for automation systems. After several positions he became R&D Manager for the Airbus plant Stade, where he was in charge of coordinating all R&D activities (mainly Carbon Fiber Composite techniques). In 2001 Jens Gralfs became Head of New Technologies/New Programmes. In this role he was responsible to guarantee the technological innovation of composites products and their suitability in terms of technical solutions. Furthermore he defined the strategy for new product manufacturing and assembly processes, tooling concepts and technological solutions; being applied in the development and realisation for the A380/ A400M/ A350.
